NAPLAN Explained

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 across Australia. It measures students’ skills in reading, writing, language conventions (spelling, grammar, and punctuation), and numeracy.

NAPLAN provides valuable data for parents, teachers, schools, and governments to understand how students are progressing in these fundamental areas. The results help identify strengths and areas for improvement, guiding educational strategies and resource allocation.

From 2023, NAPLAN tests are conducted in March, and the results are reported using proficiency standards on a reset measurement scale. The tests are now conducted online, offering a more adaptive and efficient assessment process.
